Mozilla Introduces Prism Beta
Mozilla prism is a program that can take your everyday web applications straight to the desktop. Prism is already in use by Yahoo! for their Zimbra suite and is now open to end users to use for their favorite web applications.
When I first used Prism, I first thought it was pointless since it seemed like a simple web browser that opens a URL shortcut on your desktop. But Mozilla does make a great point on the Prism website:
“Unstable applications can slow down or crash your entire browser.”
How many times have we all been writing a paper, either for work or school, using Google Docs or Zoho Writer and listening to Pandora at the same time when Flash decides to stop working? This usually requires a restart of Firefox and the retyping of several lines. With Prism, it allows all those apps to work separately from the browser thus taking a few weights off your browser’s back. If Flash decides to take a dump, only Prism will be effected. Unfortunately for you, you will have no excuse to stop working. I hope you enjoy my little demo below (it was on an older slow computer)!
Available on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Mozilla Prism can be downloaded at prism.mozilla.com
The Mozilla Prism logo is © Mozilla, Inc. and is being used for news reporting under fair use.

Google announces ‘Android’ but no gPhone
Google, yesterday announced ‘Android’, a new Linux and Java based OS for phones but didn’t say anything about a physical gPhone. I’m very disappointed because I think it would get competetive towards Apple’s Iphone. I guess Apple will continue to rein on the cell phone market for now. One thing I do like, however is the fact that Google is distributing this to cell phone makers such at Motorola (Apple and Blackberry aren’t a part of this list) making a bigger market than the Iphone. Also this software is going to be mostly open unlike the Iphone in which it is definitely closed. I’m interested to see how successful this will be. My guess is it will probably fail. I was hoping for an actual physical phone.

New Details Emerge about Hardy Heron Re-Themeing
I just read on arstechnica that Ubuntu’s next release, codenamed “Hardy Heron”, will get a nice new visual refresh. Apparently they claim that their going to do away with the brown theme… thank god… and change it to a black and orange theme… That makes the brown theme look better. I certainly hope that this will change because I don’t really like black and orange as a theme. The current default theme in Ubuntu is called “Human” and one of the new names that was thrown in there was “Superhuman”. If they go with the black and orange theme, I don’t know what to think. Its probably going to be one of those things in which I hate the thought of but after its all done and shown, its not that bad afterall.
Another thing that they said that they may do which I’m excited about is the new boot screen and login. I havent read much details about this but I love change. Along with the new color scheme and boot/login appearance is the new Icon theme which they say will be Tangoish. I love it when they add new “bling” to Ubuntu which makes me look forward to the next Ubuntu release in April.

Dell partly there
News has been going around that Dell has reached an agreement with Ubuntu to offer Ubuntu linux on their PC`s. There has been a sort of wave happening with Dell lately and whether or not they will offer Linux at all. They explain how to insall it n their support section(not how to get the integrated wireless to work though
). It is still unkown when they will actually start selling computers with Linux on them. Thats pretty much all I got for now, better articles will be coming tomorrow.

Next version of Ubuntu has been named!
Just as the new version “Feisty” is being released, Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth announced the new name of the next version that will be released in October. They decided to name it “Gutsy Gibbon”. Also with announcement came announcement of new features that will be included. Shuttelworth said that 7.10 will have a “new flavor” and also that they will possibly exclude any non-free firmware and drivers. Mark also said that he hopes to be able to include the latest in Compiz/Beryl that he wanted for Edgy and Feisty. This sounds great considering I have seen numerous complaints over the internet over the brownish/orange user interface. I predict Gutsy will be best version thus far because the distro just keeps getting better and better each time.
Thanks for reading!:)
The official announcement is Here!

Linux? Dell doesn’t want to hear it, HP says Yes!
Interesting news this morning concerning Linux being made an option for consumers buying new PCs. A few weeks ago Dell’s suggestions page made top technology headlines (on Digg anyway) when the top suggestion was to put preinstalled Linux on systems. Everyone thought that Dell would go through with that suggesting, however after a week of discussion that it was actually going to happen, Dell started to block any suggestion having to do with Linux. What happened? We don’t know, but HP said today that they will jump on the bandwagon and will provide Linux on their systems. In my opinion this is a good decision for HP, actually recognizing that this is whats in demand. Dell still claims that they are going to follow, but they ticked off just about every geek out there by ignoring any more suggestions regarding Linux. HP isn’t telling what distributions they are planning to offer, but we have a feeling that they are going to go with Suse by Novell, probably because it is well known and has a strong corporate backing to it. Anyhooooo.
Sorry for being late on the blog!
